ASC member and DP for the long-running 24 series, Rodney Charters, gave a 20+ minute interview, showing off his RED One rig that he used to travel around the world.  Equipped with the Birger Canon mount (about 1.200$), he uses the Canon 16-35mm 2.8 (1.450$), the Canon 24-70mm 2.8 (1.190$) and the Canon 70-200mm 2.8 (1.190$; $1.700 with image stabilisation) lenses. From Sim Video he has a special handle (1.200$) that doubles as EVF and battery holder.

He also had some custom made handle bar system, that does not need any rods – thus shedding off a pound or two, and saving further space (sorry, no link).

The whole set fits into one smart looking bag (the Think Tank Airport Acceleration, about 200$) that can be taken onboard a plane.

The whole interview can be found on the excellent Reel Show.

With the new installment of 24 the series being delayed for probably one year, the producers decided to push ahead, and secretly made a feature film with some young actors and hungry writers, willing to break the strike. Tony is coming back! Here’s the trailer:YouTube Preview Image

While waiting for the new – indefinetely postponed – season of 24, here is some related audio visual entertainment.

If 24 started in the mid 1990s, this is what it would have looked like (I love “Jack” “Bauer” running to the payphone each time he gets paged). Enjoy:

And here’s another spoof, this time “Jack” “Bauer” and “Tony” “Almeida” interrupting a car chase to order some food at Wacky Burgers.

What Jack does on his day off:

And some screen tests from “Keifer” “Sutherland”:

A couple of guys went through the trouble and made a fun spoof, telling of what happens during the commercial break:

I just sat through yet another disappointing episode of my (I guess I must say: former) favourite tv series, 24. I used to watch it with excitement, now it is more out of a feeling of duty. Now matter how much money you can throw at a production, it will not suceed if the fault is at the writing stage.

On the other end of the spectrum, last weekend I got to see the extra material of the new Pink Panther film. I can only recommend watching the DVD with the director’s comments. (Obviously, enjoy the show first with the ‘proper’ audio.) Very insightful, full of advice, gems, and genuine tips. Amazing director. And excellent written script (and only one minor explosion, which was added as an afterthough; 24 writers, note: explosions do not make up for lack of content/research/characterization).

Sometimes I come across a site where I wonder on whether the maker is a genius, or has way too much time on his (rarely: her) hands.

If you, like me, dig/love/like/enjoy the tv-series 24, you might enjoy a site where you can follow our hero Jack Bauer.

JackbauerphoneI wonder if the end of episode 4 that I saw is the real deal, or if they put that version out to build some hype? That’s the fun thing with 24 – you can never be sure. They are not afraid to kill their darlings.

Thanks to some connections, I got to see a preview of the first 4 episodes of the 6th season. As always, very well made – and the villans are so much more believable than the good guys. Except for Kiefer Sutherland that is.

Hey, thanks to Wikipedia I learned that Jack Bauer is of German descent. Hmm… I went to a class with a guy called Bauer – maybe they are related? )

Oh; can´t get enough of Jack? Hop over to Blogs4Bauer.

Oh; if you have got enough, blogoshere caters also for your twisted feelings. Enjoy Why24sucks.
