One of the reasons why Macs are a good investment, is that they simply last longer. Take for example our now 6 year old Power Mac (which was then middle of the range, the first Mac with a DVD burner). We are still using it as a back-up editing station, and it has just served this purpose without a glitch for the last 2 weeks.

Reading through the minimum requirements of the Hardware Scaling feature of the new Flash player, I also noted a difference between Mac and Windows machines:

Macintosh

1 GHz G4 processor or better, 256MB RAM, 16MB video RAM, Mac OS X 10.2 or later

Windows

2.0 GHz Pentium-class processor or better, 512MB of RAM, 32MB video RAM, Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, XP Service Pack 2; Vista

Basically, you need a twice as fast machine, with twice as much RAM and twice as much video RAM (and don’t have to worry about all them service packs).

Next time you consider buying a Dell because of the cheaper price tag, think long term.
